We Must All Vote Because Barack Obama's Lead Is Not Enough
by Van Stone vspfoundation@yahoo.com (215) 747-8746

8-14-2006 - Following his 50th town hall meeting in Massac County. U.S. Senator Obama poses in front of the Superman Statue in downtown Metropolis, IL. known as the home of the DC Comics super hero.

Democrat Barack Obama holds more than a ten-point lead over Republican John McCain. Obama also won their final public debate. Still in almost all states the presidential race is very close. Even though a Reuters/C-SPAN/ZOGBY poll showed on Friday that Obama is looking very strong to win there are still so many factors that can change things for a loss for Obama and a win for McCain. Tracking polls don't win races, voters for candidates do.

Obama's lead over McCain held steady at 49 percent to 44 percent among likely U.S. voters in the four-day tracking poll. But Philadelphian Obama supporters and supporters who live in Delaware County should pay very close attention that these were the same kind of results before the two men met on Wednesday for their third and last debate. As a reminder the election is November 4, 2008.The poll of 1,210 likely voters had a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.Still in recent days more and more people have added their support for John McCain. So, this means that many people just might make a very last minute effort to change Obama¢s momentum and end up pushing McCain in as the next president of the United States. So, we should not celebrate just because it does appear that Obama is getting a big boost from the debate.

Just how many boosts did Obama seem to get from the last debate? Quick polls taken after Wednesday's debate judged Obama the winner, joining a string of surveys that show him ahead both in national polls and in most of the battleground states where the presidential election will be decided. I must say that Obama is looking so level headed because he keeps focusing on the economy while on the campaign trail, appealing to voters really afraid of the global credit crisis, wild stock market swings on Wall Street, housing problem, and rise in depression as of late.

We need an economic package that will really help the poor. And the only way to see this happen is for us to not fail Obama. We have to be aggressive as we can on reminding all registered voters to go out and vote. Obama¢s point lead will only stand for something if we in a group of Obama supporters do our part to make those figures count. Other national polls have given Obama a double-digit overall lead, although most have him in a range of 2 to 9 points ahead. And this seems to be the case according to the Associated Press.

Believe it or not, Obama needs more support from black voters and women voters. Many white voters are showing a very visual and verbal support for Obama. Large crowds of people came out to see Obama make his short Philadelphia tour in both the Germantown and West Philly sectors of the city. But, crime still escalated after Obama was here and gone. So there is much work to do to get people's minds off of involving themselves in crime and involving themselves in community services that build preparation for a new day in the White House.

The U.S. President is determined not by the most votes nationally but by a majority of the Electoral College, which has 538 members allotted to all 50 states and the District of Columbia in proportion to their representation in Congress. As we can see, this is not the time to relax about the first black president of the United States becoming a reality now. This is a big deal because the first woman president and who knows even the first youth president of the United States could shortly follow.
