Will Harrisburg Mayor be Forced to Come Clean?

Former Harrisburg Mayor since 1982, Stephen Reed

by Diane F. White, Frontpage News.us

Harrisburg - Eric Papenfuse, one of the newly appointed members of the board overseeing the Harrisburg Authority, says documents show Mayor Reed may have illegally used the money to purchase 30 million dollars in Civil War and Wild West artifacts, and that some of those artifacts are nowhere to be found.
There are also rumors regarding the misuse of Harrisburg School District funds, The sale of the Harrisburg Senators, McCormick Island and money being diverted from the Harrisburg Incinerator creeping around the Harrisburg "grapevine" as well. When the news hit the airwaves about these allegations just like the artifacts alleged to be missing, the Mayor was no where to be found, he was conspicuously missing too.

In a statement, "Acting" Mayor, Harrisburg Business Administrator, Linda Lingle called the accusations false, adding "There have been no illegal expenditures and all of the artifacts have been accounted for and are being prepared for sale at public auction."

However, Papenfuse says he has documents that prove otherwise. After digging into the Mayor's records for about month now, Papenfuse estimates Reed spent close to 30-million dollars on artifacts for the Civil War Museum and the now defunct Wild West Museum. Papenfuse says the missing money is no mistake, claiming records and receipts for the artifacts were purposely deleted by the Mayor and his office. A system of corruption Papenfuse says went on for years, and those who didn't play along didn't play at all. Papenfuse says he plans on meeting with the state attorney general's office sometime within the next two weeks.

Harrisburg City Council woman Linda Thompson, elected school board members who refused to give Reed and his "Board of Control a "blank check", Harrisburg ACORN members, Harrisburg Incinerator opponents, community leaders, small business owners and private citizens, have been battling the Mayor for years while he arrogantly misused his position, taxpayer money and the courts to keep up his charade as he drained the life out of city residents leaving us in a pool of debt for our children to pay.

Armed with guts, effort and her strong faith Thompson is calling for everyone to join the fight. “And I mean everyone. From the Attorney General, the Federal Attorney General to the Auditor General, everyone on that Authority board, even citizens. Join the chorus, and call for a major investigation.” says Thompson.

Whether an investigation into these allegations, which will undoubtedly turn up even more dirt, will happen, is the million dollar question. It took 14 years for the Philadelphia Phillies it to get back to the play-offs. The Harrisburg City Council hit a "grand slam", when they got the appointments to the Harrisburg Authority, now its time for the mayor to step up to the plate. Just like Brent Myer's third strike curve ball right down the middle left the batter standing there looking dumbfounded as the umpire called, "strike three", a fair and impartial investigation into these allegations will translate into a victory for the citizens of Harrisburg too.

Time for Mass Resignation From the Democratic Party; QUIT THE PARTY!

QUIT THE PARTY!

By DAVE LINDORFF

Cynthia McKinney is doing it. It's time for you to do it too.

Have you, like many Americans, found yourself wondering why President Bush, over and over again, would hand the Democrats in Congress the weapon needed to bring him down?

Just look at the list:

Last year it was the nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. Then, in the new Congress, it was a $120-billion supplemental funding request for continuing the hugely unpopular war in Iraq, followed by a bill to legalize the very National Security Agency spying program which he has been running illegally for the past half decade, and that has had people of all political stripes in an uproar. To top that off, knowing that the Democrats were gunning for his Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, Bush made sure to have the NSA spying bill put Gonzales in charge of the operation! And now this same president is coming to Congress to ask for another nearly $200 billion for his Iraq War!

At first glance, you have to wonder, why on earth would he do this?

But then look what happens:

In every instance, with the exception of the latest Iraq War funding bill (and we know what's going to happen with that), the Democrats have folded and given the president exactly what he wanted, causing apoplexy among the Democratic and independent voters who put them in charge of Congress last November. After all, Democrats ran for office last year saying they would stand up to the president, defend the Constitution, and end the war. Now each time Bush taunts them and they fold, public support for the Democratic Congress slumps further, to the point that today, they are even less popular that Bush-quite an accomplishment!

This is a truly impressive strategy-surely the brainchild of Bush's Rasputin, the dearly departed (to Texas) Karl Rove, who long ago understood that the Democrats would not have the courage and strength of conviction to stand against even a president as profoundly despised and distrusted as Bush.

So all Bush has to do to promote a Republican victory in the 2008 elections is keep putting forward outrageous bills, keep expanding the war, perhaps to include Iran, and keep undermining the Constitution. The Democrats will enable or sign on to each horrible act in turn. And with each such shameless action taken by the Democratic Congress, they further enrage 2008 voters.

The Democrats, under Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (surely two of the sorriest excuses for leaders that Congress has had in modern history), simply don't get it. They don't realize they're being played for suckers and losers. And they don't even realize that they are alienating their base.

Which brings us to what needs to be done.

The Democrats in Congress, and at the head of the party, need to receive a serious wake-up call. Since they're clearly too dumb or too out of touch to realize what's happening, we need to send them a message they can't ignore-the political equivalent of a car bomb.

I'm talking about mass resignations from the Democratic Party, with every person who resigns and becomes an independent or who changes their registration to a third party sending a message to the DNC explaining why he or she is quitting.

It starts small with a few people here and a few people there, but as Arlo Guthrie once put it, pretty soon we're talking about a movement, and you can join it right here!

A couple of months back, I set up an email address for people to register at, and listed it on my website. To date, over 600 people have mailed in saying they are quitting the Democratic Party until Democrats in Congress begin impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney, and until they cut of all funding for the Iraq War.

Now it's time to really kick this campaign into high gear.

A few days ago, Cynthia McKinney, the gutsy and outspoken former congresswoman from Georgia who filed the first and so far only bill of impeachment against George W. Bush in the waning days of the last Congress, called me at home to say she wants to sign on. That's a nice start to the campaign!

You read it first here: Former Rep. McKinney Quits the Democratic Party!

So how about you? Think about it: If you were to accept the official line, George Bush won the presidency in 2000 by capturing the state of Florida by 537 votes. And this movement has already got more than that number of people who are no longer going to be Democrats! If we could get 537 people in each state of the union to sign on and drop their party affiliation in protest, the Democratic leadership would have to start contemplating how many close states they are going to lose next year because of their abject failure to act on principle and with courage in Congress.

Better still, if we could get 100,000 or 500,000 people to drop their party affiliation nationwide, that would send a really powerful signal.

The beauty of this plan of action is that it is easy to do. And Democratic officials, from the DNC to local officeholders and county committees watch those registration totals like hawks, so they'll spot any de-registering trend really quickly. In fact, if registrations start to drop, you'll see local party officials start pressuring their Congressional representatives to take action and do something to stem the flow. For one thing, if you deregister, you're off their mailing lists. That means they can't hit you up for money, and they can't target you for get-out-the-vote drives. (Meanwhile, in many states, you don't even forfeit your right to participate in Democratic primaries by dropping your party registration, so you can still vote against Hillary and the rest of the warmongers in the party.)

Oh, you say, we can't just quit the party and let the Republicans win again!

Really? And just what have we gotten for our support for the Democrats in 2006? The war is still fully funded, and in fact has gotten worse, with 30,000 more troops in the country, not counting the 100,000 or so private mercenaries. Spying on Americans here a home has been legalized, with the help of the Democrats. (Nancy Pelosi can use threats of party discipline to prevent members from moving on impeachment, but she won't crack the whip to make them protect the Bill of Rights, or to defund the war?) And Bush is still issuing those signing statements, so any bills of consequence that Democrats have tried to pass have either been killed by Republican maneuvering, or vetoed.

And public support for the Democratic Congress is in the teens.

Clearly the only way to save the Democrats from themselves is to make it clear to them that they have to change or die.

And the way to do that is to join the "I Quit the Party" movement!

So click here and be a quitter. (Remember to get a voter registration form and follow through by canceling your Democratic Party affiliation!)

After you quit, then go to Dem.org, where Steve Fornier is trying to help organize people who have left the Democratic Party, but still want to be democrats. To learn more about Fornier's idea, read his recent CounterPunch article.

Note: You can also help build the movement by sending this article and link to every progressive person and progressive website you can think of. It's time to take quitting the party viral.

Harrisburg City Councilwoman Patty Kim calls for the formation of "Citizen's Police Review Board"

by Diane F White

Yesterday Harrisburg City Councilwoman Patty Kim announced that she would be be holding a Public Safety Committee meeting on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 5:30 pm, in Council Chambers to discuss the formation of a Citizen's Police Review Board. "I believe we need a citizen's review board. I think we need to communicate, educate and cooperate", said Kim.

This meeting is long overdue. Community leaders in Harrisburg have been calling for a Police Review Board to no avail, for over 10 years. As citizens and taxpayer we have failed in our civic responsibility to hold our elected official accountable. For years residents have been complaining about heavy handed police officers and nothing has ever been done about it. In the last month there have been at least 4 incidents of "excessive force" being administered by male officers against women. A recent broadcast on CNN of a woman being "tazered" multiple times while handcuffed and defenseless is no surprise to those of us who have suffered similar attacks at the hands of "out of control" police officers, playing with their toys. "Boys will be boys", said Nancy Kuhn, a retired supervisor from the Comm Center of the Harrisburg Police Department. She went on to describe an incident where three female police officers were dispatched to a call for a man with an AK47, while the male officers are reserved for calls involving black women. All women should be outraged at the recent avalanche of "police brutality" towards women.

Now that Patty Kim has stepped up to the plate, its up to each and every one of us to support her efforts.

City residents should make plans to attend this meeting and come prepared to offer solutions. In fact they should make sure to attend every Public Safety Committee meeting until this issue is resolved and we have a
NON-PARTISAN, proportionally represented, Citizens Review Board, accountable to the citizens of Harrisburg.

If you have a complaint about the actions of a police officer make sure you have put it in writing. Complaint forms must be signed and notarized before being turned into Capt Pierre Ritter, Supervisor of the Uniformed Patrol. I would highly recommend turning in witness statements that have been sworn and notarized along with your complaint to expedite the investigation process. At the very least record the name, address, phone number and the best time for the investigator to contact your witnesses.

If your case is already in the court system Patty Kim nor any other member of city council can interfere with the internal investigation once your complaint has been filed. However, the task before us as concerned citizens and taxpayers will be to ensure that the constitutional rights of each and every citizen are not being violated by the Harrisburg Police department or any of its police officers.

To contact Patty Kim email:pattykim@hotmail.com her site: http://pattykim.com has been shut down.

Largest Black Radio Group in Talks to Return to D.C.

Largest Black Radio Group in Talks to Return to D.C.

The country's largest radio group for black listeners may soon bring its headquarters back to D.C. Radio One, which moved to Lanham in 1997, is in talks with the city to move to a 330,000-square-foot development atop the Shaw-Howard Metro station on Seventh Street, Northwest. But the proposed deal would mean the city has to provide $22 million in public financing. Deputy mayor for planning and economic development Neil Albert says that if the council approves the deal, it would bring the 70-station urban radio group "back to its district roots." The development would include the Radio One offices, shops and 180 apartments. Officials and developers say that the benefits of the $115 million project would outweigh the cost to the city, and that it will be a jump-start to the revitalization efforts near Georgia Avenue, Northwest. -- Information from: The Washington Post

Roanoke white supremacist says FBI is monitoring his website because of posted addresses of Jena six families.

Even though the FBI is reviewing his web site, a Roanoke man says the agency will never shut him down.

Bill White is a white supremacist. He lists five of the six addresses for the Jena 6 defendants on his web site. The FBI is now looking to see if White violated any federal laws.

On his web site White essentially called for the lynching of the six black teens accused of beating a white student in Louisiana. He says he hasn't broken any laws.

Bill White has turned heads and raised eyebrows with his protests and literature since his arrival in the Star City nearly four-years ago.

Now, the neo-Nazi is garnering national and FBI attention by listing the addresses and phone numbers of the Jena gina 6 and asking for retribution.

White said today, "There's a big difference between them reviewing something and me doing something wrong. They have been reviewing, reviewing and reviewing it for years and years and years. We have been publishing. We will continue to publish."

White, who is the commander of the American National Socialist Workers Party, says the FBI has not contacted him.

He says he decided to post the addresses to show people that his group is "not going to tolerate black on white racial crime."

Meanwhile, as communities around the country have rallied around the Jena 6, locally the NAACP says it's surprised how people have reacted to the situation in Louisiana and Bill White represents a small segment of the public.

Daniel Hale Jr. is the president of the local NAACP. He said, "It demonstrates in our society that we have people who spew hatred and still demonstrate hatred in some type or form."© 2004-2007 LSN, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Pregnant Woman Fatally Shot in Front of Kids

A man suspected of killing his pregnant girlfriend in front of her two children as they were driving in Watts surrendered Monday at a police station. The woman's two children were witnesses to the murder. The two sons ages 4 and 14 watched as their mother was shot to death Sunday night in Watts. The suspect was the woman's boyfriend 33-year-old Stephen Picart.

"It's unbelievable," said William Broom, the victim's Stepfather. "I mean, this happens to everybody's family but yours. I mean this never happens to your family."

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday. The victim, identified as Sharon Carter, was driving on the 9600 block of Compton Avenue with her boyfriend and two kids. Carter's 14-year-old son was in the passenger seat and her 4-year-old was in the backseat with Picart.
Police say Carter and Picart got into an argument, and that's when Picart shot and killed her. Picart allegedly fired four rounds from the backseat as Carter was driving. Carter died at the scene.

"The hardest thing is to tell a 4-year-old child that they will never see their mother again. That is a nightmare, a traumatic experience that a child will have to go through. Counseling may never fix that," said Christi Antwine, the children's aunt.

According to investigators, the victim's 14-year-old son had to steer the car to the side of the road as his mother slumped to the side. Police say Picart then got out off the car and took off on foot. The victim's two sons were left in shock after watching all of this happen.

The victim's extended family say the couple had no history of domestic violence, they can't think of why Picart would do this. Adding to the tragedy, the woman was two months pregnant with Picart's baby.

Picart gave himself up at the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station and will be booked for murder in the death of Sharon Carter, according to the LAPD.All material © 2007 KABC-TV, Inc. & 2004-2007 LSN, Inc. All Rights Reserved.Story posted 2007.09.24 at 08:17 PM PDT

Judge Brutality by Media Delco Courthouse; Bias by U.Penn; Lewis Harris Jr.

In the photo above possibly there’s a senior or two that lived during the time of at least 2 of the Black Presidents of America-Warren G. Harding and Dwight Eisenhower. During a most recent Senior Development Meeting at 6901 Woodland Avenue in Philadelphia Lewis Harris Jr., Community Activist, first from the left, participates in a hard-fought campaign for better Senior living in Philadelphia citywide. Today, Lewis Harris Jr., Councilwoman Blackwell and many in the University City District, a West Philly area governed by Councilwoman Blackwell, are allied subjects in the challenge against the bias of U. Penn. UCD wants Philadelphian’s to pay them a business tax to have streets washed and cleaned; graffiti cleared, and streets patrolled without choice.

Judge Brutality by Media Delco Courthouse; Bias by U.Penn; Lewis Harris Jr.

By Van Stone vspfoundation@yahoo.com (215) 747-8746

The objective of being cruel is a big story that news reporters, community activist, and even political activist are following very closely these days. A person, place or thing that is alleged to continue to publicly behave badly, for example Jena, Louisiana justice system, now find themselves under defensive attack by dads, kids, students, moms and grandparents. In the nearby Delaware County area and the Philadelphia County area complaints, about 2 Judges in Media Delaware County Courthouse and 1 non-profit incorporation contracted by the University of Penn, have alarmed -the Democratic Majority Leader, the second most-powerful job holder in Philadelphia Council, Philadelphia Daily News reporters, several students at U Penn, a third-party candidate for Philadelphia City Commissioner, and myself Van Stone to step up and speak. Judicial Brutes bent County communities to their will. And Leaders don’t aim to please brutes.

Judges Barry C. Dozor and Judges Maureen Fitzpatrick, Media Delaware County Courthouse has been the subject of several complaints to Philadelphia courts, attorneys and community activist. Both Dozor and Fitzpatrick target males that are living in poverty, having a very difficult time finding meaningful jobs, and appear to have no criminal record found in the PA state criminal background data. Males both black and white is then ordered to imprisonment at the Delaware County Prison. There is no legal basis for decision in favor of a plaintiff, witnesses of a violation, or criminal charges filed against the men. The men must either pay a bail higher than bail for a gun charge to get out of jail, or remain at George Hill Prison amongst the regular offender population.

$20 must be paid to the court for a weekend stay at the prison. Protection From Abuse Orders is granted following the imprisonment. It’s alleged, Judge Dozor and Judge Fitzpatrick may participate in granting a wrongful imprisonment again. Where the money collected from the poor men goes is anybody’s guest. It seems that the Delco school system is not benefiting from the get out of jail-money-scandal. Lately the Philadelphia Daily News has reported that the Delco School System Administration is under fire from Delco residents complaining about money not being handled correctly.

Elsewhere, in Philly Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell has been very critical of the University City District with Lewis Harris Jr, third-party candidate, community activist and I supporting Blackwell against the U Penn. Blackwell is “at war with Penn” with superior reason. The UCD has openly filed a proposal, forwarding it to the state, to abuse the West Philly residents, businesses and landlords in the boundary they hand pick as their own. The UCD is proposing that they control what is called a Business District, or BID, allowing them to demand tax-like payments from all business and landlords that operate over or up to 4-unit-property in the University City District. U.Penn approves.

Residents that live in the University City District will have to pay city taxes and the UCD tax regardless of operating a non-profit business or not. Residents, businesses and landlords of the University City District may choose not to receive services from UCD but will not have a choice to decline paying the UCD tax as if the UCD is an entity separate from the city of Philadelphia. As we may all know, Philadelphia is made up of 3 separate entities in city government. The mayor governs the city. The districts are governed by city council. And the city commissioners govern the city’s county. City Council decides what authority if any is increased or decreased to the city commissioner to oversee the county. The UCD governs nothing especially, in councilwoman Blackwell’s district. Lewis Harris, Jr., very close to nabbing the 3rd city commissioner seat come November election, has responded to a request to meet with me about the U Penn situation.

Over $400,000 is voluntarily given to the UCD to do services. But residents, businesses, landlords and students volunteer in the University City District too. These do not receive contracts with the U.Penn for services. Most are Black male folk

No Bail for 'Jena Six' Teen

No Bail for 'Jena Six' Teen

(AP / Jena, La.) — A relative of one of the Jena Six said a judge denied bail Friday for Mychal Bell, the only one of the teens who is jailed in the beating of a white classmate.

Attorneys would not comment because juvenile court proceedings are secret. But the father of one of Bell's co-defendants said Bell's bail request was rejected.

Bell's mother left the courthouse in tears and refused to comment.

Bell is the only one of the group known as the Jena Six to have been tried so far in the December beating of a white classmate.

Bell was convicted of aggravated second-degree battery, which could have led to 15 years in prison. But his conviction was thrown out by a state appeals court that said he could not be tried on the charge as an adult because he was 16 at the time of the beating.

On Thursday, the case drew thousands of protesters to this tiny central Louisiana town to rally against what they see as a double standard of justice for blacks and whites. The march was one of the biggest civil rights demonstrations in years.

Jena Six, Mychal Bell, Ex-offender and Wrongfully Imprisoned, is Freed

Jena Six, Mychal Bell, Ex-offender and Wrongfully Imprisoned, is Freed
By Van Stone.

JENA, La. - A Louisiana appeals court has tossed out the battery conviction of a black teenager who faced 15 years in prison for the beating of a white classmate amid racial tensions in the north Louisiana town of Jena.

Mychal Bell had been convicted of aggravated second-degree battery. He's one of the so-called Jena Six, a group of black teenagers charged in the beating of Justin Barker last December.

Bell, who was 16 at the time of the beating, was due to be sentenced Thursday in a case that has drawn international attention. He and four others were originally charged with attempted second-degree murder. Those charges brought widespread criticism that blacks were being treated more harshly than whites following racial altercations involving Jena High

Nearly a year ago, in the small northern Louisiana town of Jena, a group of white students hung three nooses from a tree in front of Jena High School. This set into motion a season of racial tension and incidents that culminated in six Black youths facing a lifetime in jail for a schoolyard fight.

The story that has unfolded since then is one of racism and injustice, but also of resistance and solidarity, as people from around the world have joined together with the families of the accused, lending legal and financial support, adding political pressure, and joining demonstrations and marches. Nooses were hung after a Black student asked permission to sit under a tree that had been reserved by tradition for white students only. In response to the three nooses, nearly every Black student in the school stood under the tree in a spontaneous and powerful act of nonviolent protest. The town's district attorney quickly arrived, flanked by police officers, and told the Black students to stop making such a big deal over the nooses, which school officials termed to be a "harmless prank."

Black students were warned. "I can make your lives disappear with a stroke of a pen," District Attorney Reed Walters said. Meanwhile, white students hanging the nooses never received any real punishment. Months later white students beat up a Black student at a school party, also threatened two Black students with a shotgun. They were never punished. But, after these incidents, when Black students got into a fight with a white student, six Black youths were arrested and charged with attempted murder. All together they faced a lifetime in prison.

The white student was briefly hospitalized, but had no major injuries and was socializing with friends at a school ring ceremony the evening of the fight. Despite this, when Mychal Bell, the first youth to go to trial, refused to take a deal in exchange for testifying against his friends, he was quickly convicted by an all-white jury. Bell’s public defender, Blane Williams, called no witnesses and gave a short defense. The Justice System in the United States must be looked at more closely to end discrimination.

Special Report: Blackwell experiences his being bombed

Arson at office of state Rep. Thomas Blackwell will not deter him; Lewis Harris Jr. allied to help.

by Van Stone
State lawmaker, Tommy W. Blackwell, IV, known for efforts to rid his district of violence, illegal liquor sells, illegal gambling, such as a casino, and drug-related activities had his office set on fire in an arson.

State Rep. Thomas Blackwell's office in West Philadelphia took a hit of minor damage in the blaze set around 4 a.m. Friday, according to police. It was quickly noticed by passers-by and doused by the fire department, police Lt. Frank Vanore said. The fire was set after someone threw a rock through the office's front window and poured an accelerant inside, said Vanore. Blackwell, a Democrat, said that he and his staff will work out of his North Philadelphia office until the other one can be repaired. A Personal secretary of Blackwell says about the anger against the Blackwell office, "we will not be away from here for long. We must remove the violence and non-violent crime from this district."

Blackwell plans to increase his redevelopment of the 52nd Street Strip boundary from Pine Larchwood Avenue to Lancaster Avenue by supporting millions of funding dealing with the neighborhood's climate, vegetation, population, land use, and industries. "I'm trying to help the community district eradicate the illegal things going on around here," Blackwell said. Lewis Harris Jr., Education, Public Safety and Health businessman arrived at Blackwell's damaged office to support removing crime and violence from the West Philly community. A few years ago, Harris Jr's. office was bombed by angry groups as an intimidation tactic.

Harris Jr., plans to use the office of the city commissioner,(voting commissioner) to increase training for childcare staff, school mentoring and evening programs for families in the business district. "This will inhance Blackwell's target, a fresh and safe 52nd and Market Street area for black people that are suffering at the hands of crime,Harris Jr., says."

Councilwoman Blackwell In West Philadelphia.

City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell Supports Son 190th District State Representative Tommy Blackwell the morning after his office was fire bombed in West Philadelphia Thursday night.

Special Report: A Step In The Right Direction

All 4 local ACORN Chapter Presidents, neighbors from the 16th & Catharine St Area, leaders and representatives from the PA ACLU, NAACP, PHRC, MoveOn.org and PA Green Party joined dozens of ACORN members, who came together last night to address council about the overt police incident which terrified a neighborhood at the end of the South Harrisburg Block Party.

The council listened attentively, most times allowing the members to speak past the allotted 1 minute, as the members and supporters talked about what happened, demanded an investigation, and asked for assistance and cooperation from the Harrisburg Police Dept. Neither Chief Kellar nor Captain Ritter attended, but two uniformed police officers were in the audience.

Allison Hill Vice Pres Clarence Totton*, overwhelmed by emotion, broke down in tears as he addressed the council members, and could only finish his thought with, "thank you and keep up the good work".

Media included Fox43, WHP21, and Roxbury News. WHTM-27 and The Patriot News was also there, but did not interview any of the members, although the Patriot did run the story in today’s' paper on page B6. One story is in the paper, but two links to the same story, with two different headlines can be found at their PennLive website:

Cosby And Vick, Philly Doesn't Need Another Hero For Cool Kids

"We don’t need another Hero. We don’t need to know the way home." All we want is life beyond the cruel speakers about African-American kids. Far right: Lewis Harris Jr., Education, Public Safety and Health Businessman attends a Bipartisan event in support of defining ways, uplifting African-American kids for a better Philadelphia. Unlike Cosby, Harris Jr. speaks volumes of truth without name-calling to redirect cool kids: keep backpacks full of books instead of emptiness.

Cosby And Vick, Philly Doesn't Need Another Hero For Cool Kids
by Van Stone vspfoundation@yahoo.com (215) 747-8746

First of all there’s no individual I know of in the book of Genesis who was born an adult. That goes for William Henry, Jr. alias Cosby, US entertainer too. Cosby was born into a poor family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a kid amongst others that walked somewhere when school let out. He grabbed on his friends like other ordinary kids and did and said things from time to time that any positive adult might not feel was appropriate for school. Philadelphia has never had the history of being a town with low child delinquency, non-restless students, the elite of the school athletes, or an esoteric book on 19th-century poor-class black family terms. In other words, Cosby can’t deny being on (black kids) escapades when we stole the other teams (black kid’s) mascot. We still live in the era of the poor black kid that goes to city school. Cosby didn’t go to school in the home-school era where mom and dad keep the dirty laundry in the same building that kids attended school. Kids knew then and today, they are never to be considered by anyone as "dirty laundry." Yet, here we are 70 years without Cosby, 1937-, the advertising spokesperson for major companies that support kids, speaking many of his ideas about black kids in Philly. Cosby ideas come from family life with his friends whom are out of touch with the Philadelphia African-American Community and school.

Being without Cosby is no emotional dilemma. It’s not anti-Cosby either. Cosby is not important to African-American business success for the week to remain in business. The plain truth of the matter is that folks out of touch with African-American children’s needs support Cosby when he gives speeches mixed with some truth but mainly having the unacceptable name calling and taking, and exploiting black kids' spirit. But super NFL quarterback Michael Vick has never been quoted as exploiting black kids or calling them names that any school teacher would be fought against if ever heard saying black kids are "dirty laundry." Vick apologized to kids, (especially poor black kids) for participating in "dog fighting." Vick wanted kids to know that he was aware that kids looked up to him.

When Cosby was called to the carpet to apologize for his nasty remarks about black kids he not only refused to do so but also created a war of words and action by telling parents that their school age children were "dirty laundry." More Cosby. "To the critics who pose, it's unproductive to air our dirty laundry in public," he responds, "Your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 everyday. It's cursing on the way home, on the bus, train, in the candy store. They are cursing and grabbing each other and going nowhere."

"The book bag is very, very thin because there's nothing in it. Don't worry about the white man," he added. "I couldn't care less about what white people think about me. Let them talk. What are they saying that is so different from what their grandfathers said and did to us? What is different is what we are doing to ourselves," Cosby said. Cosby is just an elitist who has aged to the point where blacks and whites in business will do better if he just stayed out of Philly. One individual who does business involving both black and white poor families is businessman Lewis Harris Jr. of Southwest/West Philadelphia.

Harris Jr. understand the plight of the black poor and supports certain school operations and easy access to public safety radio communications, all fire department staff and face-to-face cool kid talk whenever possible. Should an unexpected event occur after school (i.e. sudden unexpected horse play or bad language), Harris Jr. uses his company to plan scheduled resources to create safe corridors at schools so that kids can disburse with books used to do homework. For kid’s sake, don’t support cruelty to animals or children.
