Commissioner Stands By Officer's Use of Taser at Phillies' Game
by KYW's Mike Dunn
With the case of the rogue Phillies' fan who was tasered by police in the outfield now making national news (see related story), the panel that reviews use of force by city police believe the taser was appropriate.
Police commissioner Charles Ramsey (right) says he stands by the officer's action, noting that several officers had attempted to catch the teenage fan (in red shirt) for several minutes before the taser was used.
Kelvyn Anderson, deputy director of the Police Advisory Commission, agrees:
"Discussing this with my executive director and a couple of the other commissioners who have seen this, it hasn't really a problem with us so far. It does appear, as the commissioner said, to be a reasonable use of force given what the officer was confronted with."
