Hello! It is good to be back online. My offline holiday was good and I hope that yours was wonderful also. I could have sent someone else to do the instruction, but I am very hands on and I like to make sure that you get what you need. I like to provide a certain amount of care and interaction.
I am not going to keep you long today, but I want to share this tidbit with you. This is for Microsoft Word 2007 users. Have you noticed, and I know that you have, that annoying little tool bar that comes up every time you highlight text? I shouldn’t think that the Mini Tool Bar is annoying to everyone, but many have asked me about it. It pops up at an inconvenient time and covers the text you are trying to make changes to. This annoys me because it stops the rhythm and the flow of my typing and it assumes that I want to use the formatting that has been made available at my finger tips.
The feature pops up to allow you to bold the highlighted text, to underline or even center the text. It puts a number of formatting options at your fingertips right next to or over the highlighted text. My thinking is that they designed it like this because the Mini Tool Bar pops up right at your mouse pointer. Most users will use the Tool Bar on the Home or Main Menu frame. Do you know the saying “There’s more than one way to skin a cat”? Well that’s Microsoft. One thing about Microsoft applications, is gives you several ways to accomplish the same task, but I want to have the CHOICE to choose.
Well, anyway. To disable the Mini Tool Bar:
1. Click the Office button at the top left hand corner (colorful four square type shapes)
2. Click Word Options (bottom right)
3. The option Popular is selected by default in the left pane. Uncheck the first option to the right, Show Mini Toolbar On Selection.
4. This will take the check mark out of the checkbox.
5. Click OK.
It’s done. Thank heavens. If you decide that you miss it, just repeat the sequence and click in the checkbox Show Mini Toolbar On Selection in step 3.
I want to close this session with two things. One is a Tech Tip and the other is an invite for you to contact me on facebook. The reason I want you to contact me on facebook is so that you can make comments about the articles you have read or you may have questions that you want answered. Or you may just want to say hi.
Tech Tip
You can change the font size of the displayed text on any website. Now that’s cool. Here you go.
In Windows, press Ctrl and the plus or minus keys (for bigger + or smaller fonts -); on the Mac, it’s the Command key and plus or minus.
