For the first time in its 25-year history, a woman will lead the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity.
Bishop Audrey Bronson (above), pastor of the Sanctuary Church of the Open Door in West Philadelphia, began preaching at the age of 14. She's a graduate of Cheyney University and was a psychology professor there for 18 years.
"I realized that teaching psychology was a living, but this was my life. And I had to do what God wanted me to do. I had no idea I'd be at this point, but it's God moving me on the chessboard."
She most recently was the first vice president of the group, and says her mission was to help all people, most most importantly "the downtrodden and those who have been pushed aside."
